A Constant Update Time Finger Search Tree
نویسندگان
چکیده
Levcopolous and Overmars [L088] described a search tree in which the time to insert or delete a key was O( 1) once the position of the key to be inserted or deleted was known. Their data structure did not support fingers, pointers to points of high access or update activity in the set such that access and update operations in the vicinity of a finger are particularly efficient [GMPR77, BT80, Kos81, HM82, Tsa85]. Levcopolous and Overrnars left open the question of whether a data structure could be designed which allowed updates in constant time and supported fingers. We answer the question in the affirmative by giving an algorithm in the RAM with logarithmic word size. CR Classification Number: [F.2.2 Sorting and Searching]

A Simple Balanced Search Tree with O(1) Worst-Case Update Time
In this paper we show how a slight modification of (a, 2b)-trees allows us to perform member and neighbor queries in O(logn) time and updates in O(1) worst-case time (once the position of the inserted or deleted key is known). Our data structure is quite natural and much simpler than previous worst-case optimal solutions. It is based on two techniques : 1) bucketing, i.e., storing an ordered li...
متن کاملFinger trees: a simple general-purpose data structure
We introduce 2-3 finger trees, a functional representation of persistent sequences supporting access to the ends in amortized constant time, and concatenation and splitting in time logarithmic in the size of the smaller piece. Representations achieving these bounds have appeared previously, but 2-3 finger trees are much simpler, as are the operations on them. Further, by defining the split oper...
متن کاملDynamic Succinct Ordered Trees
We study the problem of maintaining a dynamic tree succinctly, in 2n + o(n) bits, under updates of the following form: insertion or deletion of a leaf, insertion of a node on an edge (edge subdivision) or deletion of a node with only one child (the child becomes a child of the grandparent). We allow satellite data of a fixed (but not necessarily constant) size to be associated to the nodes of t...
متن کاملLDT: A Logarithmic Distributed Search Tree
We propose LDT, a new Scalable Distributed Search Tree for the dictionary problem, as an alternative to both random trees and deterministic height balanced trees. Our scheme exhibits logarithmic update time, either constant or logarithmic search time for single key queries and output sensitive query time for range search query, depending whether one affords linear or O(n log n) space overhead.
متن کاملCombining Binary Search Trees
We present a general transformation for combining a constant number of binary search tree data structures (BSTs) into a single BST whose running time is within a constant factor of the minimum of any “well-behaved” bound on the running time of the given BSTs, for any online access sequence. (A BST has a well-behaved bound with f(n) overhead if it spends at most O(f(n)) time per access and its b...
